C
A programming language, originally limited to the Unix operating system, widely used to develop systems and software.

C++
Enhancement to the C language, providing object-oriented programming features.

Cache
The location where visited web pages are stored, enabling them to be displayed more rapidly at the next visit. Each browser has its own cache on the hard drive.

Cascading Style Sheets
A standard of the W3C which defines a simple mechanism for customising the formatting of Web pages, by defining fonts, colours of titles, paragraph spacing, etc.

Case
Character property distinguishing uppercase from lowercase letters.

ccTLD
Country Code Top Level Domains. The country code for domain names (.fr for France, .uk for United Kingdom, .be for Belgium, etc).

Cell Padding
The amount of space between edges of a table cell and the cell content.

CGI
Common Gateway Interface. The server-side program or script used to process the data entered in a fill-in form.

CGI Script
Often combined with a fill-in form to collect and process the data entered by the user.

Check Boxes
Elements used in a form enabling the user to select several replies to one question.

Client
A computer or an application that calls on a server's services.

Client/Server
Network architecture used to distribute an application across several computers, some of which being clients that issue queries, and one being a server that processes the queries and possibly returns results.

Clipart
A ready-to-use graphic file.

ColdFusion
Online database management system from Macromedia.

Colour Code
Hexadecimal value of colours used in a HTML page.

Colour Palette
The set of colours included in an image.

Combo-Box
An element in a form, combining a drop-down list with a text field.

Continuous Tones
Uniform colour without dithering, often used as a background.

Cookies
Text files downloaded onto a visitor's computer hard drive to store the visitor's actions in order to better customise their following visits.

Copyright
Legal rights to commercialise, license, transfer, broadcast or reproduce an original piece of work, irrespective of its supporting media.

Counter
Free Web service used to count the number of visits per page and/or per site.

CuteFTP
One of the most widely-used FTP clients.
